June 30, 2009. Although most drug development companies are tight on cash these days, at least one has no problem with its bottom line due to a satellite company strategy that conserves resources. What is consistent in the pipelines Obesity-news is covering this month, is that these companies use new approaches to drug discovery and novel pathways -- with amazing results. The following are new to our site this month:
New site additions in June:
- June 30: An update on the OSI weight loss and diabetes drug pipeline with a focus on the company's SNRI drug which it calls a "next generation sibutratine", and its GPR119 compound.
- June 19: An update on TT-223 a phase II diabetes drug that increases β-cell function via a novel pathway.
- June 15: A fascinating look into the effect that inflammation has on diabetes, how selectively decreasing the effects of inflammatory cytokines preserves β-cell function, and how the drug XOMA 052 produces this effect.
- June 11: A discussion by about the use of antisense technology for the development of more specific and safer drugs. In this presentation, Isis Pharmaceuticals focuses on its metabolic disease portfolio, and unique satellite strategy that preserves company resources allowing it to work on a broader scope of disease targets.

May 28, 2009. The tightening of cash resources has affected pharmaceutical development, especially in small companies. New site additions in May:
- May 28: Details on the Amylin pipeline including progress on new labels for Byetta, the NDA submission for exenatide once-weekly, and the progress of the company's obesity phase II franchise -- the most advanced of which produced a stunning 12 percent plus weight loss in just 12 weeks.
- May 27: An update on 11 compounds in the Obesity-news.com drug pipeline which have moved forward in their programs, and those which have had to discontinue development. A follow-up on another 12 compounds will be on-line next week.
- May 22: An update on Contrave detailing company plans for partnering, commercialization and release of additional phase III data.
- May 19: New information on the anti-obesity compound tesofensine, one of the most potent weight loss agents in development. Phase II trial results, the results of a long-term open label study, and plans for phase III are discussed in the presentation.
- May 18: A presentation on the FDA advisory panel recommendation for liraglutide, and an update on the Metabasis diabetes pipeline.
