About Obesity-news
November 7, 2005. Founded in 1996, the Obesity-news web site is one stop-shopping for concise, accurate information about diabetes and weight loss medications and supplements. Obesity-news maintains two up-to-date databases on supplements and investigational compounds, and two monthly newsletters for subscribers, plus publicly available information for site visitors. All portions of this web site are completely subscriber-supported. We take no advertisements and have no sponsors, so you can be sure that our work is not influenced by outside interests.

Our newsletters.
- Obesity-news. Our highly-respected, plain-language newsletter summarizes recent research on drug development, over-the-counter supplement research and gene discovery. Access to all back issues is included in the subscription fee.
- Obesity-update. Our monthly literature review where you will find links to dozens of press releases, journal articles and conference abstracts on drug development and genetics. A sample issue is on-line.
- Obesity-101. Our obesity primer is designed to give beginners an overview and background on the various theories on the causes of obesity, and information on research and treatment.
Our databases.
In 2004 and 2005 we added two databases:
- The Obesity-news diabetes and weight loss drug database catalogs information on approximately 150 investigational compounds. Our database keeps track of the phase of development, and maintains comprehensive hyperlinks to conference abstracts (cataloged and housed on our site), journal articles, press releases, articles, patents, and coverage in Obesity-news. There are three ways to view the database. The pipeline by company name database lists each drug being developed by pharmaceutical company code, and when available, brand and generic name ; the compound database lists each drug by name, and the pipeline information index lists each drug by mechanism. Each of the indexes is hyperlinked for seamless browsing during research. Recent additions to the database are listed in the beginning of the pipeline information index. Samples of the pipeline information index and the compound database by name are available.
- The Obesity-news diabetes and weight loss supplement database follows diabetes and weight loss supplements research. It contains the same type of information as the drug database.
What is available to visitors?
Non-subscribers are invited to view any publicly available information on this site. Selected pages and full-text articles are made available to the general public as a public service and for marketing purposes. Popular free pages include our FAQs, sample articles, our list of upcoming medical conferences, and our list of physicians specializing in the area of weight loss. All visitors and subscribers agree to adhere to our position on copyright as a condition of visiting this site.
