  • APPA: The Association Of Higher Education Facilities Officers
    Alexandria, VA. Government Relations Director. Hired to form new government relations program at this nonprofit association representing facilities managers at colleges and universities. Provided professional support to the APPA government relations committee, board and executive committee on legislative and regulatory activities. Also directed coalition building and partnering activities, wrote position papers, spoke at APPA regional and annual meetings, and instructed at APPA Institute. Other projects included expanding grass roots program to membership-at-large, developing a member resource network and government relations data base for APPA's new web page. Major policy areas were environment, occupational safety and health, and energy.

  • Hirsch Communications. Washington, DC.
    Provided professional support to various organizations on public policy, public and media relations, and grass roots mobilization. Policy areas included telecommunications, energy, environment, insurance, tax and general business issues. Also directed general legislative campaigns, built and maintained coalitions, wrote legislative materials, including testimony and position papers for DC area non-profits.

  • National Telephone Cooperative Association
    Washington, DC.Government Relations Representative. Provided legislative and regulatory support to members of national association representing rural telephone cooperatives. Participated in decision making on legislative strategy, monitored Communications Act rewrite legislation, REA appropriations and directed FCC radio licensing program. Participated extensively in cable-telco cross ownership issue. Regularly wrote articles for trade association publications on legislative and regulatory issues. Edited and wrote annual salary survey. Had overall responsibility for department budget. Trained and supervised administrative personnel. Spoke at seminars, round tables, and NTCA meetings on telecommunications issues.
